A VERY RARE CHARLES II MUSICAL LONGCASE CLOCK SIGNED THOMAS TOMPION The 10 inch dial signed, Tho. Tompion London with seconds dial, calendar aperture and cherub spandrels, the three train bell striking movement with inside countwheel and five inter-changeable music barrels, each pinned for two tunes and engraved with the name of the tunes, playing on two nests of seventeen bells with thirty-two hammers connected to the pinned barrel by a series of levers, the music controlled by an outside countwheel and released every three hours or at will, a music/silent lever at 'X' and a tune change lever at 'II', the case with a moulded flat top above a cushion moulding, rising hood with spiral pilasters, long trunk door crossbanded and inlaid with a border of stringing, similarly decorated re-built plinth with bun feet, the sides veneered with well figured wood. Together with an oak box containing the four spare tune barrels. The five music barrels sold with this clock are extremely rare survivors; each is pinned for two tunes, the names of which are engraved on the end of the cylinder.
