An unusual, week-going, repeating French carriage clock, made c. 1840, in a profusely engraved gilt brass case. The case has windows on all sides which allows the movement to be seen. Under the handle there is an additional window that shows the platform with lever escapement. The clock has a matt silvered dial, signed the maker: Faton à Paris, behind a front door that gives access to the winding holes. The week-going movement consists of a going and a striking train. The going train construction allows for a seconds hand to indicate the seconds on a seconds ring on the dial, a quite unusual feature. The striking train indicates the hours fully and the quarters by a ting-tang stroke on two gongs (petite sonnerie). The last hour and quarter can be repeated at all times by pressing a button on top of the clock (grande sonnerie). In addition the clock has alarm, the alarm time being indicated by a blued steel hand on an auxiliary dial under the main chapter ring. The clock is in excellent condition
