A very fine pair of Louis XVI gilt bronze and white marble cassolettes shaped as tripod athéniennes, each with a reversible domed cover surmounted by a foliate and berried finial, the cover opening to reveal a turned candle holder, the baluster-shaped white marble body mounted with long horned rams’ heads, linked by a spiralled border and from which suspend swaged chains, on a lotus-leaf cup and spiralled shaft with a ring connecting three monopodiae supports with cloven feet on a thin raised inverted triangular and outer circular plinth supported on a circular white marble base ornamented with a gilt beaded band Paris, date circa 1780-85 Height 27 cm. each.
