Thomas Browne, Bristol.

A very rare striking lantern clock with alarm. The distinctive copper dial is beautifully engraved in the centre which is enclosed by a narrow brass Roman chapter ring. The doors are original and the anchor escapement is a very early 17thC conversion. Only 5 clocks by Thomas Browne are known to have survived and this is the only example that is actually signed by the maker. This clock is also illustrated in English Lantern Clocks by George White, fig. V/22, page 223; Bristol-made clocks are discussed at length on pages 222-229.
