A fine pair of Empire gilt and patinated bronze five-light wall-lights, each with a central upright fluted branch flanked by four foliate wrapped scrolling branches each terminated by a vase-shaped socket and circular drip-pan and each issuing from a gilt bronze foliate cup heading a patinated bronze foliate-wrapped stem that issues out of an elongated foliate backplate
Paris, date circa 1810
Height 44 cm, width 36.5 cm. each.
The design of these wall-lights typify the Empire style, comparing to candle branches surmounting a pair of candelabra held in the hands of a winged Victory by the esteemed ciseleur Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751-1843) in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (illustrated in Hans Ottomeyer and Peter Pröschel, “Vergoldete Bronzen”, 1986, p. 329, pl. 5.2.4).
