A good and attractive French Louis XVI ormolu ‘pendule d’officier’ by Charles Le Roy, circa 1770. 10.5-cm enamel dial with Roman chapters and Arabic five minute marking signed Charles Le Roy A Paris, foliate pierced and engraved gilt hands and steel alarm pointer, asymmetric winding holes for the similarly signed spring driven 8-day movement with tic-tac escapement and silk suspended pendulum, half hour striking with numbered five-spoke countwheel and alarm, both on a bell surmounting the engraved ormolu case together with four tapered finials and a handle, front mask with a sunburst cresting and engraved diamonds incorporating flowers, glass panels to the sides and back door, the whole raised on bun feet. Height 19cm. handle down. Width 12cm. Depth 9cm.
