Marine chronometer No. 4859 by Breguet Paris, 1846 Dial: Matt-silvered dial. Roman hour and Arabic ten-minute divisions, five-minute division and marks for the other minutes. Subsidiary seconds dial with Arabic ten-second division, five-second division and marks for the other seconds. Signed and numbered: Breguet et Fils Hgers de la Marine No 4859 Royale Movement: Brass; two going barrels, wound separately from beneath. Earnshaw spring detent escapement. Cut bimetallic compensation balance with steel helical spring. Breguet winding key. Duration: 52 hours. Case: Gimballed brass bowl in a two-tier mahogany carrying case with external brass drop handles and observation port in the lid with slide cover. The upper section with an inset diamond-shaped brass plaque.
