A fine Louis XVI gilt bronze mounted mahogany guéridon, the circular veined grey and white marble top enclosed by a pierced gallery above a circular four panelled frieze with gilt bronze mounted borders, with a central drawer and slides to either side divided by carved fluted rectangular panels above turned tapering fluted legs on brass castors
Paris, date circa 1790
Height 70 cm, diameter 65 cm.
The elegant simplicity of this guéridon places it within the late Louis XVI period. The overall shape and style can be compared with similar pieces executed by the esteemed ébéniste Bernard Molitor (1755-1833), although it should be noted that in most instances Molitor included an undertier.
